Not much choice as the Council have abandoned our local theatre. Still when it's knocked down it will make nice flats and generate even more Council Tax won't it.

The council did not abandon the theatre,it spent millions subsidising it despite opposition flack over many years, had half the people who signed the petition to keep it open visited the theatre once a year it would still be open.
Residents of Tameside abandoned the theatre how often did you attend, knocking it down and building flats on the site would not generate any extra funds for the council, when councils receive extra council tax revenue from extra new homes their government grant is reduced, its a complicated formula but it does mean new homes do not give you extra cash, you stay neutral.

So TMBC provide all the essential services these new residents get with no extra money. More money coming into the Council's coffers means more money to 'play with'. We know all about New Labour's 'complicated formulas' thanks to the expenses scandal. If you think the word of ANY elected representative from the main Parties has any worth amongst the vast majority of the public you're living in a fool's paradise. In short the electorate no longer trust their government, and New Labour were in charge when that happened.
