Interestingly it could be claimed that they have other things in common.
Both men rely on / relied on the decision of the British Government as to whether they get / got Independence. If the UK had recognised the Independence of the CSA and had broken the Union Navy's blockade and therefore kept the cotton trade intact it would have ensured the economy of the South.
Fact: even with the blockade the UK provide weapons to the CSA. Whitworth cannons made in Gorton were used at Gettysburg by the Alabama artillery.
