What were the popular drinks back in the 50s in Dukinfield? What's that they are supping there? Mild?

Bents and Garsides I think a great little pub full of after work drinkers in the 60s especially the demolition workers who had to get that dust off their lungs

The Talbot was one (of many) of my Grandads locals. I use to have the privilege of taking his empty bottles back for the deposit about once every month. Fortunately I had a grocery delivery job near the Talbot with one of those small wheel/big wheel bikes with a big basket on the front. When I was delivering near Inverness Rd. I called in to Grans who had the bottles ready for me.
Happy and safe days.

Hi there, my Dad remembers his "Aunt Nan" and partner Frank Firth running The Talbot on King St sometime in 1950's. My Dad "Tony Challinor" used to got there in the summers and we're currently trying to trace any family members or friends from that (or any other) time. If anyone has any information, photos or...???? it would be great to get in touch. I can be reached at jasonchallinor@gmail.com
thanks in advance

Hello everyone. I'm living in Germany at the moment, via plenty of places. One of them however was Dukinfield in the 70s. My mum and dad (Tony and Dot) briefly ran The Talbot in the early 70s. Not exactly sure of the dates or for how long and they're both gone now so...

However, I do remember the place. I remember the backyard more than the pub, although I do clearly remember there being a lounge and a snug, and there being a piano. We were the last ones there before it was bulldozed and then we moved into the brand spanking new (and now demolished!) North Star - that must have been about 1973? 74? We spent about four years in the North Star then before moving down to pubs in Leicester.

Hi John

Is it the one on the website? Brings back memories. Don't get back to UK too often. Next time I do I'll have a look through the old family photos that are at my sisters. Sure there'll be a few worth scanning and uploading from our Dukinfield or even Ashton days (Dad's first pub with Bass was The George and Dragon near the market).
