William Kenyons Rope works Dukinfield made the ropes used by the Sir Edmund Hillarys historic climb of Everest, when the company decided to sell off part of their works and develop the site for housing I suggested that they name the sites after this historic event , We now have Everest Close and Tensing Fold after the head sherpa Tensing Norgay (Tenzig) who made the climb with sir Edmund,Kenyons still make ropes in Dukinfield and are still a major employers in the area.
